ASEAN Showcase Festival and Conferenc

by Evan Murray

ASEAN Music Showcase Festival, or AMS in-short, is Southeast Asia’s first interregional music showcase festival. Its inaugural edition was organized virtually via live broadcast of pre-recorded performance videos in September 2020 during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic as an initiative to help regional artists stay connected with their fan base; gain new international fans; and look beyond the pandemic and prepare for future export and international touring opportunities by meeting with music business professionals from all over the world via virtual speed meetings.

Apart from virtually, the co-founders also dream to organize the event physically – seeing each country take turns being the host each year after the pandemic is over.

WHO

We are a group of gig/concert promoters, music festival/conference owners and music community leaders from all over Southeast Asia who are confident in the quality and creativity of our musical talents and want to support their export to the global music market.

WHAT

ASEAN Music Showcase Festival or AMS for short, is a virtual music showcase festival that features up-and-coming and interesting artists from Southeast Asia. For AMS 2021, we shall be featuring artists from 7 ASEAN nations, i.e. Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. A virtual speed meeting shall also be conducted to connect artists with potential talent buyers such as music festival owners, promoters, labels and agents from all over the world.

WHERE

The showcases and speed meetings shall be conducted virtually via video streaming and video conference. For future events after the COVID-19 pandemic, the co-organizers hope to organize the event both online and offline, with each country taking turns to be the host.

WHEN

The event shall be organized annually to keep the momentum of promoting ASEAN music. For this year, the event is scheduled for September 11-13, 2021 (showcases on September 11-12 and speed meetings on 13).

WHY

AMS was co-founded by gig/concert promoters, music festival/conference owners and music community leaders from all over the region. Its inaugural edition – AMS 2020 – was organized virtually via live broadcast of pre-recorded performance videos in September 2020 during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic as an initiative to help regional artists stay connected with their fan base; gain new international fans; and look beyond the pandemic and prepare for future export and international touring opportunities by meeting with music business professionals from all over the world via virtual speed meetings.

HOW

A music showcase festival is a music industry event format that has been proven to boost artist careers and break them into new markets.  Southeast Asian countries all have rich musical cultures, but is virtually invisible to the world.  We want to let the world know about our music and export our artists to the world!
